Cellphone GPS Comes To The Rescue
Sometimes it’s good that people can find you, even when you’re trying to get away from it all. A fellow named Mathew Scheer was enjoying what he and a lot of other people are doing this time of year, hunting.
After spotting what he called “a pretty good deer” he took off running and soon after started having chest pains. He was able to stay focused and place a call for help from his GPS equipped cellphone. The dispatcher was able to use the track the GPS position and with a little help from Mathew himself, lead emergency responders who were responding by helicopter to his location within minutes.
In less than an hour from the onset of his chest pains, Scheer was receiving treatment at a medical facility. Pretty amazing.
Cellphones made after 2005 have the GPS option available by going to Settings>Phone Settings>Location on you cellphone and activating the 911 settings. It might save you life one day.
